The Benefits of Dental Implants

Updated: Nov 9, 2020

Replacing missing teeth is essential for your overall health, let alone your oral health. Most people don’t know this but when you lose a tooth – you can encounter several other problems. Apart from the people who laugh at your distorted smile, your mouth will slowly start to deteriorate if you leave this problem untreated.

Chewing will become a problem, and the chances of you damaging your tongue will increase significantly. In a situation like this, dental implants offer advantages that other options like bridges or dentures can’t. If you’re still not sure whether you should get a dental implant or not – we’re giving you four reasons why dental implants can make leave a smile on your face (literally).

1. Avoiding Bone Loss

You also lose bone mass when you lose a tooth. When we close our mouth, our jaw bone also needs stimulation from our teeth connecting to make sure we can maintain this mass in our jaw. But when we lose a tooth – this connection stops happening. If you don’t get an implant soon, surgery might be required which can be a lot more expensive.

And don’t try to avoid this procedure to look for a more suitable alternative. There is no other option that can help you prevent bone loss rather than a dental implant.

2. Appropriate Bite Force

A dental implant is placed in a patient’s jaw with a metal post. The structural integrity and strength of this metal allow the patient to bite into the food with more or less the same force they had when they had their tooth. When you compare a dental implant to other options that hope to emulate its impact – they are just not strong enough.

Because these tools lie on the top of your gums, they aren’t fixated in one position.

3. Face Looks Normal Again

Our teeth are crucial in maintaining the shape of our face. They help support our facial structure, so when you lose your teeth – you lose the support. However, when you get a dental implant, this shape is restored as your face looks normal and you don’t have to self-conscious before you laugh at a joke.

4. Improved Quality of Life

Since a dental implant is the closest you can get to having a natural tooth – it makes your life seem normal again. Your comfort while eating food, and confidence while smiling returns and you start to feel like yourself again. It also makes you realize how we take things the smallest of things for granted since after a long time – you won’t have to decide what you can chew comfortably before you look at a restaurant’s menu.

While dentures require annoying adhesives, dental implants feel completely natural.

Conclusion

If you’ve lost a tooth and you can’t make up your mind about getting a dental implant, you should get one to make life seem normal again. Don’t look at the substitutes! They have to be repaired frequently or replaced, while a dental implant is designed for life.
